TREND REPORT BY JINA GG MURAYOSHI
Today’s Trend Report will focus on achieving the new look inspired by the ’70s with “Flare Jeans”
As you may have already heard a hundred times in fashion news this spring, this season is all about the ’70s!
The Key thing to keep in mind when wearing flares is that we must refrain from channeling the ’70s too literally,
for example it may not be a good idea to pair a peasant top with this new trend. The look we do want is to pair a mid rise flare jean with a tucked in cardigan or polished blazer which gives off a prim look! Or you can also follow Harper’s Bazaar’s Senior fashion editor Joanna Hillman and wear your flares with an oversized button up jacket, add an electric blue patent purse to give off a modern look. With these inspirational looks, hopefully your ready to trade into your skinnies and be daring and try out a pair of 70-styled jeans! To help my fellow risk takers accomplish this look, below are a list of designers that have incorporated this look into their S/S collection.
Madewells – Widelegger Jeans ($125)
Rag&Bone – Elephant Bell Bottoms ($176)
Aso’s – 1970s Inspired Flare Jean ($63)
Rich&skinny’s – Bikini Flare Jean ($196)
Topshop’s – Moto Jessie Flared Jean
Once you find your fav jean, its on to the rest of your outfit! As I mentioned above you cant go wrong when pairing flares with a button up or blazer, this combo makes this silhouette look relevant not retro. You can also pair with a silky blouse, a long strap flap bag or satchel for an additional touch of femininity! Whatever you do, make sure you purchase this piece to compliment your wardrobe by thinking out of the box! Its always better to stand out in a crowd instead of blending in!
