*HEALTH* WATERMELON’S NUTRITIONAL POWERHOUSE

Who would have thought the common watermelon packed so much nutrition? The usual notion about watermelon is they are just water with taste, harmless, but not a good choice for nutritional value. Wrong! Watermelon has the most nutrition per calorie of common foods.

Organic watermelons are hard to find and pricey when found. But conventionally grown watermelons are not among the dirty dozen of the most heavily sprayed produce. Instead, they are actually among the fifteen most clean of non-organic fruits and vegetables.

*FASHION* KANYE WEST CLOTHING LINE CONFIRMED FOR FALL 2011

Kanye West is indeed working on a womenswear line, slated to debut this fall. According to Central Saint Martins professor Louis Wilson, Mr. West will be collaborating with CSM graduate Louise Goldin (who designed Rihanna’s New Year’s Eve dress).

Wilson told the Guardian, “I think we can expect a well-considered collection, you wouldn’t expect less from a pair of professionals and I warn against dismissing it in haste. There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don’t believe this will be the case – he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.”

*HEALTH* 10 SURPRISING HEALTH BENEFITS FROM SEX

When you’re in the mood, it’s a sure bet that the last thing on your mind is boosting your immune system or maintaining a healthy weight. Yet good sex offers those health benefits and more.

That’s a surprise to many people, says Joy Davidson, PhD, a New York psychologist and sex therapist. “Of course, sex is everywhere in the media,” she says. “But the idea that we are vital, sexual creatures is still looked at in some cases with disgust or in other cases a bit of embarrassment. So to really take a look at how our sexuality adds to our life and enhances our life and our health, both physical and psychological, is eye-opening for many people.”

Sex does a body good in a number of ways, according to Davidson and other experts. The benefits aren’t just anecdotal or hearsay — each of these 10 health benefits of sex is backed by scientific scrutiny.

(CBS/AP) Two studies reported HIV pills could stop the spread of the disease in straight couples. Now, AIDS experts around the world are reacting with excitement over the groundbreaking findings.

“This is really a game changer,” said Dr. Jared Baeten, a University of Washington researcher who led one of the studies.

Researchers announced Wednesday the results from two studies that showed the Gilead-manufactured HIV pills, Truvada and Viread, prevented disease transmission in heterosexual men and women.

PIGS (COPS) ARE THE ONLY BEEF AT 7TH ANNUAL BBQ

Someone please tell me what is wrong with having a BBQ with 400 of your friends, family members and business associates? I really don’t understand how the wonderful officers of the Philadelphia Police Department feels that whenever they see young minorities gathering they have to intervene. It’s like we finally get a large group of young people together in a peaceful fashion and the ones that enforce the law want to perpetuate negativity. To bring that much drama unnecessarily is mind boggling, why would you put someone in the back of a cop car for asking questions? Last time I check we are tax payers and citizens with rights and freedom of speech and expression. Is this not the case anymore; is the Constitution no longer the governing document that we live by?

My organization has been hosting our annual BBQ at Blue Bell Park for seven straight years with one issue in the past. Since then our event has been nothing but a display of peace and love with guess speakers, local venders and artist all in attendance. This event is a great opportunity for corporate sponsorship that a few of our cities civil servants attempted to tarnish, forcing people to leave the park earlier than we were entitled to.

Our  organization really do appreciate law enforcement and understand that they have a tough job. There are lots of citizens that have not made it easy on them but we truly do need to figure out a way to cohabitate and exist together. To all Philly P.D. thanks for the help but I think our resources will be better spent stopping actual crimes instead of BBQ’s.

Lastly I would like to say thank you all for coming out and showing support and we will see you all at the” Changemakers Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival/Block Party” coming soon!!!!

YAO MING SET TO RETIRE FROM (NBA) HOUSTON ROCKETS

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Rockets All-Star center Yao Ming is retiring after nine NBA seasons, according to a person with direct knowledge of his decision.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity, because Yao has not announced his plans. Yao has scheduled a July 20 news conference in Shanghai to talk about his future.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that Yao is retiring. The person says neither Yao nor his representatives have informed the league office of Yao’s decision, and the league says Yao has not filed paperwork that would make his decision final.

Neither the Rockets nor the league are allowed to comment on Yao’s decision because of the lockout.

The 7-foot-6 Yao was the top overall pick in the 2002 draft, but his promising career has been hampered by foot and leg injuries.

THE DANGER IN NEWER BIRTH CONTROL PILLS

Studies: Newer Birth Control Pills Increase Risk of Blood Clots

Newer forms of birth control pills that are made with the hormone drospirenone may increase the risk of serious blood clots, new research suggests. Women who take drospirenone-containing pills, such as Bayer’s best-selling Yasmin, are two to three times more likely to develop a clot than those using older oral contraceptives that contain the hormone levonorgestrel. Those findings appear in two studies published today in the British Medical Journal. Exactly why drospirenone is linked with a greater likelihood of blood clots is unclear, and the researchers said overall risk remains low. In one of the studies, women taking the newer pill had a 2.3 times greater risk of a blood clot—which translates to 30.8 cases per 100,000 women, compared to 12.5 cases per 100,000 among those taking levonorgestrel. “If I have a patient coming in tomorrow starting on birth control, I might not reach for the Yasmin product,” Steven Goldstein, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at NYU Langone Medical Centertold HealthDay. “But I definitely would not take anybody off Yasmin who’s been on it six months or a year and is doing well. I would not throw these pills out based on this.”

TREND REPORT BY JINA GG MURAYOSHI – RACHEL ZOE

Today’s Trend Report will focus on one of my favorite Stylist, Someone I am deeply inspired by, The fabulous ”Rachel Zoe

When I think of Fashion, I think of impeccable taste, silhouettes, great designers and most of all “Rachel Zoe”. This star stylist is so amazing for many reasons – her additive TV show, her darling newsletter and an upcoming clothing line that she has in the works to name a few. I first fell in love with Zoe a few years back while watching her TV show (The Rachel Zoe Project), where I was inspired by her enthusiatic attitude and passion for fashion.

Although Zoe works with high-profile clients and has a very notable fashion sense, she does not have any formal fashion training. Zoe went freelance, giving her the opportunity to meet and work with some high-profile clients. As a stylist, she has worked with Brenda Song, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Mario Orejel, Nicole Richie, and Keira Knightley. Zoe’s current client list includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Kate Beckinsale, Debra Messing, Demi Moore, Liv Tyler, Joy Bryant, Molly Sims, Beau Garett, Eva Mendes, Paula Patton and Anne Hathaway. Zoe, with the help of reality TV star Nicole Richie, became the pioneer of the ‘boho chic’ look. This look consists of oversized jewelry, loose-fitting dresses and shirts, paired with a slim frame.

MUHAMMED ALI’S GIFT TO DIRK NOWITZKI

Former heavyweight champion and legendary sports icon Muhammad Ali didn’t waste any time in letting the most recent NBA Finals MVP know exactly how he feels. According to Dirk Nowitzki(notes) — last month’s main man as the Dallas Mavericks won it all — Ali sent him a glove after Dallas’ Finals win with an inscription that read “You are the greatest.”

Minutes before he strode onto a balcony to greet his fans and followers in his hometown of Wurzburg, Germany, Dirk took the time to answer several pointed questions for Spiegel, Germany’s most famous and prominent weekly magazine. And while we should probably be wary of the translation inherent in back and forth sessions like these (there are some questions and answers that scan a little dodgy once translated to English), the story behind the Ali sustains.

MILAN , PARIS DONT WANT BLACK MODELS ON RUNWAY

It’s hard to believe that in the 21st century discrimination is still prevalent on the runway. You would think after globally adored supermodels like Iman,Veronica Webb, Naomi Campell, Tyra Banks, Liya Kebede and Alek Wek put in laborious work, breaking down color barriers to pave a lane for new faces like Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Chanel Iman, Sessilee Lopez and Chrishell Stubbs to thrive, that Paris and Milan, the fashion capitols of the world, would finally accept that models of color are just as beautiful as the white faces that dominate the catwalk. Is being the muse of a famous designer the only way a black model can succeed? Unbeknownst to many, the late Gianni Versace was instrumental in catapulting Naomi’s illustrious career.
