Are You Full? Per Johansen’s Stuffed Food Series
Per Johansen has created this food pictorial symbolizing overconsumption in our society. The project is called “MET” and consists of meat, veggies, fish and various other edibles forcefully shoved into plastic containers. Johansen set out to create an ascetically pleasing picture that would draw the eye to a harmony of color but then disrupt the energy with a social message.
Phylicia Rashad’s letter to her 21-year-old self:
Romantic involvement distracts you and can blind you to what’s really in front of you. And what really is in front of you? You are. You don’t even know yourself yet. You think you know and you want to assert that you do, now that you’re a certain age, but you don’t. What’s in front of you is a whole world of experiences beyond your imagination. Put yourself, and your growth and development, first. There are long-term repercussions to what you’re doing now. Everything you do, every thought you have, every word you say creates a memory that you will hold in your body. It’s imprinted on you and affects you in subtle ways—ways you are not always aware of. With that in mind, be very conscious and selective.
With high hopes for you,
Phylicia

ALLEN IVERSON TO PLAY IN PHILLY EXHIBITION GAME?
Could Allen Iverson be the latest big name added to Sunday’s star-studded exhibition in Philadelphia?
A source with knowledge of the game rosters says Iverson is “supposed” to play Sunday in a game expected to feature LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, among others.
When reached via email Wednesday, game organizer Rahim Thompson said “no comment” when asked about the possibility of Iverson playing.
Iverson is one of the most popular athletes in Philadelphia. He played parts of 12 NBA seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2001 while winning the league’s MVP award.
PIGS (COPS) ARE THE ONLY BEEF AT 7TH ANNUAL BBQ
Someone please tell me what is wrong with having a BBQ with 400 of your friends, family members and business associates? I really don’t understand how the wonderful officers of the Philadelphia Police Department feels that whenever they see young minorities gathering they have to intervene. It’s like we finally get a large group of young people together in a peaceful fashion and the ones that enforce the law want to perpetuate negativity. To bring that much drama unnecessarily is mind boggling, why would you put someone in the back of a cop car for asking questions? Last time I check we are tax payers and citizens with rights and freedom of speech and expression. Is this not the case anymore; is the Constitution no longer the governing document that we live by?
My organization has been hosting our annual BBQ at Blue Bell Park for seven straight years with one issue in the past. Since then our event has been nothing but a display of peace and love with guess speakers, local venders and artist all in attendance. This event is a great opportunity for corporate sponsorship that a few of our cities civil servants attempted to tarnish, forcing people to leave the park earlier than we were entitled to.
Our organization really do appreciate law enforcement and understand that they have a tough job. There are lots of citizens that have not made it easy on them but we truly do need to figure out a way to cohabitate and exist together. To all Philly P.D. thanks for the help but I think our resources will be better spent stopping actual crimes instead of BBQ’s.
Lastly I would like to say thank you all for coming out and showing support and we will see you all at the” Changemakers Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival/Block Party” coming soon!!!!
ODUNDE – AFRICAN STREET FESTIVAL 2011
The fun and cultural celebration continued in Philadelphia’s Center City Sunday where the 36th annual Odunde Street festival was held on South Street near 20th. The festival concluded four days of Odunde events in that area.
Odunde’s central theme is rooted in the traditions of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, where Odunde means Happy New Year. It was a thrill to enjoy African Culture through art , music and education.

HISTORIC HARLEM – THE BLACK MECCA
This past week , I had a chance to travel to New York and explore Historic Harlem. Harlem was once known as the “Black Mecca” in America because of the millions of African Americans that migrated there after the civil war. Harlem was also the place where Malcolm X resided and practiced during the civil rights movement. During my quest I found many historic landmarks and cultural monuments. I had the chance to visit the Audubon Ballroom where Malcolm was assassinated. Check out some cool photos I captured during my visit and read more on Harlem by clicking the link below.
WIZ KHALIFA | NAS | THE ROOTS & ESPERANZA SPALDING “ROOTS PICNIC”
Another classic event! I was thrilled to attend the 4th Annual Roots picnic saturday with some of my all time favorite artist. The crowd was engaged and the stage was rocking. I arrived just in time to see Esperanza Spalding perform , Spalding is the 2011 Grammy award recipient for best new artist , making her the first Jazz artist to win the award. Her performance was chilling as she did a outstanding job maintaining her soulful vocals while playing multiple instruments. In a matter of minutes Spalding became one of my favorite artist.
Wiz Khalifa also hit the stage bringing tons of energy as he performed hit after hit. I was struck by surprise a bit as I under estimated Khalifa’s stage presence. He seem to have lots of fun on stage as he danced and engaged the crowd. Wiz also showed love and admiration for Philly’s own artist Beanie Sigel , Young Guns and Freeway by letting them perform during his set. State Property artist performed classic hits turning the crowd up a couple more notches.

TREND REPORT BY JINA @GGMURAYOSHI
Today’s Trend Report will focus on adding character to your Ensemble with “Big Brimmed Hats”
As your fashion advisor, I must admit that I love cheeky accessories like bows, skinny ties, bright jewelry and hand gloves to name a few and right now I’m going bananas for this Springs new trend “Big Brimmed Hats”. This statement is filled with enough character to finalize any ensemble adding a dose of vintage glam to your daily outfits!
While I am a huge fan of the latest trends we must first pay attention to the woman that were daring enough to make this look work in the late ’60s and early ’70s! Fashion Icons like Anita Pallenberg, Marianne Faithfull and Bianca Jagger were the divas who took these oversized floppies and made them come to life. This is a look definitely worth emulating!
LEBRON JAMES TO PLAY FOOTBALL?
Lebron James is 6’9 and weighs 275 pounds with rare gifted athletic ability . For his size and weight he would be a nightmare on the field just as he is on the court. If Lebron James were to switch sports, his NFL success would possibly exceed his NBA success making him one of the greatest athletes ever.
Lebron would join the company of Jim Brown and Bo Jackson who are hall of famers in their respective sports. If Lebron was to play quarterback he would have multiple advantages. First would be his size making it easier to look over the offense and defense of linemen, also enabling him to elude different defenders by breaking tackles , second would be his vision already a great passer and floor general his vision would help him find different receivers on the field. Third would be speed favoring him to out run defenders and extend plays similar to Michael Vick.
You can also place James at wide receiver which would be an automatic mismatch for undersize defenders. Its simple, just throw the ball up.

CHANGEMAKERS ORGANIZATION MURAL ARTS PROJECT
Changemakers will being partnering with the P.I.N.K Ladies mentorship program to beautify the community through mural arts. Starting June 11th we will be painting the Cecil B. Moore recreation center each saturday. The recreation center is located at 2251 N. 22nd Street Philadelphia Pa 19132 (@ the corner of 22nd & Huntingdon Street). This mural project is conducive to all individuals more importantly it is constructive for the youth to grow through this project.
We encounter daily experiences, patterns and relationships which reveal a great deal about who we are as interacting humans. Socio- economic and societal issues play a factor in the development of brains and ultimately, the behavior. Disadvantaged children clearly do not benefit from their place in society. Scientists, however, believe they have found one solution that can hopefully equate the growth of such children with normal but not necessarily affluent kids. Through creative enhancing techniques such as dance or movement, drawing and music, all children, underprivileged children especially, can advance their development.
DYING TO LOOK GOOD – CANCEROUS COSMETICS
When it comes to beauty products, the effects of the ingredients they contain are more than just skin deep.
In fact, shampoos, makeup, lotions, perfumes and other cosmetics for sale today can contain ingredients linked to breast cancer, infertility, birth defects and other serious health problems.
Just pick up any bottle of shampoo, facial cream, body lotion or any other beauty products and you’re likely to find an incredibly long list of synthetic chemicals — many of them even toxic and cancer causing. These chemicals enter our bodies – through ingestion (toothpaste, lipstick), skin absorption (lotions, deodorant, makeup) and even inhalation (perfumes, fumes, etc..). Multiply this seemingly small amount by the number of products you use throughout the day, on a daily basis, and over your entire lifetime and you will see how your body is bound to accumulate these toxins over time. The following chemicals are very often found in cosmetic and personal care products:

Ten Conversation Icebreakers
Fellas, you never know when it can happen. You could be walking along the street, eating at a restaurant, hanging out in a nightclub, or chillin’ at a friend’s barbecue and suddenly, there she is: a gorgeous woman you’d love to talk to. So what are you going to do about it? You’re going to step up to bat and talk to her, that’s what.
But if you never learned how to approach women (and if so, you’re not alone), here are some icebreakers that could come in handy when it comes to picking up women in different locations and venues.
Your main weapon is always the art of adaptation. Before moving in, assess whether the scenario involves a “hot” or a “cold” pickup.
Hot situations occur when she’s noticed you and has given you that “come hither” signal (either via eye contact, a sexy flip of her hair or one of those shy smiles).
Cold situations, on the other hand, indicate that there hasn’t been any previous flirting. This scenario can prove to be more difficult as you’re never sure if she is, or will be, interested.
Now, on to the icebreakers.
